Camilla Gibbons

Operational Wet Crew for Coastguard Sumner

Inspired by the RNLI (the UK’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution) and the urge to help people in their time of need, volunteering for Coastguard was an obvious choice for Camilla.

After four years, she’s still just as eager to help her community as when she first signed up.

“I get a lot out of volunteering. A lot of the training we go through is a huge benefit to me and sailing and all the other on water stuff, but also just the fact that I get a real good kick when we do a successful call out.”

Coastguard Sumner is a unique Unit. With three different purpose-built vessels and a crew who sees themselves spending a fair amount of time in the water working around the rocks, helping surfers and working closely with the local surf lifesaving clubs, it’s the perfect place for those with an adventurous side.
